One integrated planet

A brain for the planet (share with those that need one).

Herewith a list of credible resources to support living well

**updated from time to time** from books, videos, resources and people taking us into a regenerative space (Carol Sanford style).

Activating your bioregion

Here I start a blog on a program I am doing with the Regenerative Design School. Much of which I will capture in the ‘one integrated planet’ brain.

#1 17 March 2025

The program starts 19 March (US time). I could be throwing my time into some mad keen geography nerdy types ( a bit like me:)

The ones I have met so far have the best conversational skills, big hearts and share some common values with me – e.g. care for earth and all beings; be humble.

Feels like…momentous start of doing the right activity. Motivated to get up at 3 am to connect.

Pre-reading…

I have done the pre-reading – how to map a bioregion. YAY.  I particularly like this as a starting point (reference: Brandon Letsinger Mapping your Bioregion):

  • Start with your own backyard, or something you care about. [same philosophy as Permaculture design – where to start…]

The audit part …..

  • Where does your water come from, where does it go? [sector analysis, water audit, ..feel for the water in this place..]
  • How about your food, your energy, your trash and clothes? [ dismal I know, so hard to live with less waste and clothes accumulate over time with pass me ons, ‘inheritance outfits’ and op shop purchases…hey at least we have solar! a little unit anyway and a subscriptio produce box!]

The analysis…

  • What would you need to think about it for that to be local or sustainable?
  • What about the non-human inhabitants? What do the forests need, the rivers, lakes, and ecosystems? Fish, Birds, Mammals? [ alive and well here, nursery for kangas, blu tongues, maggies and snakes, spiders, scorpions and seasonal bird pathway]. Our river is lovely, must spend more time in/on/with her. walking the water is an aspiration.
  • Is this area large enough to support the inhabitants living within it? [ yes and no, food production is very low …]
  • Is it large enough to be self reliant? If not – expand your scope. Rinse, repeat. -[ Interesting ….no so maybe I go with community reliance? what does reliant mean ecologically?]
  • What are the layers important to map for your bioregion, that can help your bioregion emerge? [ this is partly a sector analysis, a communication medium, a creative artefact]

My backyard (or really the front habitat garden)
