TAE – Terrible (learning) angstridden experiences :) part I
March 31, 2025My struggles with update my TAE qualifications
(Warning – angst, trauma and grie, GRIT and persistence – it will be ok at the end, I promise).
This is my way of processing and motivating myself to keep the story going – the world ends as we know it in OCT25 the deadline for me to submit all my assessment or I will need to pay more for the privilege. (and it is a privilege I am well aware).
I was inspired to refresh and disappointed to find my original workplace assessor and training qualifications was not recognised.
Education shapes the future, is commodified and a necessary means of communication and transfer of knowledge and skills.
So the journey to update for personal development, enterprise application (in my WorkSmith business) and oh workplace application in my employment role.
Should I RPL? Which RTO to go with? in the end a “good deal” discount with a reputable management focussed institute was the go.
Starting a new job, sure we will pay for that and give you time for study…after onboarding not so much the reality.
As a background I have a research masters, been diving into unschooled study and formal qualifications for complexity systems theory, design, ecology and psychology for the last 10 years and not been institutional education systems for many years. I also have done this amazing program designed by Dr Barbara Oakley some years ago (as a MOOC) https://www.coursera.org/learn/learning-how-to-learn [ thoroughly recommend]
I have worked on projects within the education system and VET system (policy and design) so was well aware of the nature of the beast that is VET.
Wonderful that VET is there, no doubt about it. Just what a complicate paradigm to dive into as a student.
so off I go with enrolment….First the application form – some usability wouldn’t go astray. Then the first orientation lecture – a one way delivery of step-by-microstep did not inspire much… including how to read and fill in the assessment kit. Really? showing adult learning principles in action there. No interaction in the session with students to understand who and what we might already know.
Starting..and a new job, new course, all good until my only colleague was made redundant, the senior manager left and then my dad got ill…to be continued.
